Nina Simone Painting for the New Amazing Nina Documentary

Documentary filmmaker Jeff Lieberman debuted his film The Amazing Nina this year chronicling the life of Nina Simone. As a kick-off for the premiere in New York, Jeff curated an art show at MiLES Gallery showcasing 50 works of art from around the world in homage of Nina Simone.

On October 16th, the event resurrected her energy through a mix of her music played throughout the night, watching her come to life with a live painting and the presence of her brother Sam Waymon and band member Gene Perla mingling in the crowd.

My painting Liberian Calypso was inspired by her song of the same title. 

We closed the night with a group photo of the artists that showcased, the director and Samuel Waymon.
